Zaccai has been performing since the age of five. As a young child, he studied many styles of music including all forms of jazz, salsa, classical. As a high school student, Zaccai earned many musical awards from festivals; was recognized by DownBeat as a top performer; and chosen as the pianist for the National Grammy Band small combo. He started performing on the jazz scene by playing with the Charles Flores Trio. Along with his Insight commitments, Zaccai currently performs with the Donald Harrison Quintet. The quintet has performed in Spain, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Germany, and New Orleans among other venues. Zaccai is also performing regularly in New York with Mr. Harrison’s nephew, Christian Scott, a prodigy on the trumpet. Zaccai has graduated from New England Conservatory where he earned both his B.F.A in Performance and his graduate diploma in Performance. Mr. Curtis is composing and arranging for his own trio, solo piano works, and for large and small string ensemble. In 2001 he was commissioned to arrange Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espagnol” to be played by Insight with the Hartford Symphony Chamber Orchestra. In 2003 and 2004 he was chosen as a winner of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer’s competition.
